Exquisite Bracelet with 14.10 ct Diamonds in Platinum by Léon Tcherkassy

Exquisite Bracelet with 14.10 ct Diamonds in Platinum by Léon Tcherkassy

This bracelet was crafted in the workshop of the Parisian jeweler Léon Tcherkassky in the years leading up to 1930. With its broad, exceptionally opulent design and strictly symmetrical structure, it is a characteristic example of luxurious French Art Deco high jewellery. The bracelet is crafted from solid platinum and consists of three wide, movably interconnected decorative links. Their basic geometric form is overlaid with a dense, almost pointed-looking interlacing of elegantly curved, serrated lines. Several hundred diamonds fill the surfaces almost completely. Between the three large elements, narrow links—also set with diamonds and reminiscent of clasps—allow for flexibility while simultaneously creating distinct accents. In this way, the design combines the geometric plaque arrangement typical of Art Deco with a remarkably rich, almost textile-like surface effect. At the center of each of the three large decorative panels sits an old-cut diamond weighing approximately one-third of a carat. A total of 516 additional diamonds in various historical cuts make up the extraordinarily rich setting. Together, the diamonds weigh approximately 14.10 ct. The use of different cut shapes creates a particularly lively sparkle. Léon Tcherkassky is one of the lesser-known goldsmiths of interwar Paris—though this says nothing about the quality of his work. Tcherkassky was born in 1888 in Yekaterinoslav in the former Russian Empire, now Dnipro in Ukraine. He has been documented in Paris since 1915. His workshop was located at 11 Rue de la Tour-d’Auvergne; his French maker's mark features the initials “L T” along with a cross and a star. This bracelet bears this hallmark and, with its intricate platinum work and exceptionally lavish diamond setting, attests to the high level of craftsmanship in his workshop. An independent gemological report confirms the quality of the materials and is included with the bracelet.
