Fragments of individuals imbued with a poetry as timeless as it is fantastic, the works of Fabien Delaube plunge us into a contemplation “in mirror” whose question is, of the two, who gazes at whom? A complete artist Both a specialized decorator (trained at the Bordeaux Opera and at the Compagnons du devoir) and a painter, he first trained in audiovisual techniques, and more particularly in photography. Later, the artist turns toward a rich and plural apprenticeship in the visual arts. Proficient in mastering all pictorial techniques, from classical painting to trompe l’œil, his personal art reveals itself in the execution of an original contemporary figurative painting, imbued with dreamlike qualities. Fabien Delaube nevertheless leans toward oil painting, which he enjoys applying to finish the entirety of his works. Mysterious characters The artist likes to paint human bodily features, more or less discernible, and they recall forms inspired by African masks or other facial types borrowed from the history of theatre or the military. . In trying to decipher the “scars” of color and matter whose faces are partially or fully covered, one could almost uncover their history.
