fabric - Thailand - Late 20th century

Pair of Thai textile artworks, late 20th century, depicting figures from Thailand's traditional iconography. The figures are shown in poses characteristic of Thai classical dance and theatre, with tall headdresses, richly ornate ceremonial costumes, and numerous decorative details. The work is notable for its use of vivid tones and gold highlights that stand out strongly against the dark background. This decorative technique, typical of many Thai works intended for framing in the mid-20th century, particularly highlights the jewelry, headdresses and geometric motifs of the clothing. Pieces executed on a fine textile. The exact nature of the textile has not been analyzed; many comparable examples are described as made on silk, sometimes with gold highlights or gold leaf. Origin: Thailand Estimated period: 1960s-1970s Style: traditional Thai art / Asian art Support: fine textile Subject: figures of traditional Thai dance and theatre Presentation: framed pair Dimensions of each frame: 48.5 cm in height × 44.5 cm in width Beautiful antique decorative set, particularly interesting presented as a pair.
