Figural Hotelware Pitcher And An Art Deco Vase

Figural Hotelware Pitcher And An Art Deco Vase

Figural Hotelware Pitcher And An Art Deco Vase Comprising a figural grey- blue glazed hotelware pitcher from the Hostellerie du Grand Saint Antoine, Albi, France, depicting the "Temptation of St. Anthony", and an Art Deco style pale blue laurel leaf and berry vase. Approximate dimensions: Pitcher: 10 x 7 x 5 in. (25.4 x 17.8 x 12.7 cm.) Provenance: Private Collection of William Douglas Campbell, Chicago, IL. Note: the "Temptation of St. Anthony" is a previously unpublished drawing in the guest book of the Hostellerie du Grand Saint Antoine (now the Hotel Saint Antoine) created by the historian Jean Laran (French, 1876-1948) in 1909. It is a play on the gluttonous bounty of the Rieux family's dining room.
