Figure - Banco di pesci (12) - Aluminium

Cast Aluminium Sculpture - School of Fish Tessellation in the style of M.C. Escher Design / Decorative Objects / Desk Sculptures. MATERIAL: Cast aluminum, brushed silver finish. TECHNIQUE: Handcrafted artisanal casting DESCRIPTION: An illusion that becomes matter. Magnificent and large desk sculpture depicting a school of 9 angelfish that interpenetrate in a perfect tessellation, directly inspired by the celebrated work "Fish and Scales No. 20" by M.C. Escher (1959). This is not a simple decorative object: it is a 3D optical illusion. Depending on the light, you see the fish or you see the void between them that in turn becomes a shape. Escher called this the "infinite filling of the plane" and here it is translated into metal. Completely made in artisanal aluminum casting — typical production of Italian artistic foundries — it presents that splendid hammered and irregular surface that catches the light. The solid rectangular base makes it stable and dramatic on a console, shelf, or entry table. A substantial 40x40 cm size, imposing presence, perfect for an interior in Mid-Century, Coastal Chic, or for a collector of optical art and Escher memorabilia. TECHNICAL DETAILS: • Dimensions: 40 cm (H) x 40 cm (L) x approx. 4 cm (base depth) • Weight: approx. 3.5 kg • Material: Solid cast aluminum • Origin: Italian artisanal production, circa the 1960s • Subject: Escher-style fish tessellation. Excellent vintage condition. No breaks, cracks, or missing welds. Shows the natural matte patina of artisanal casting and micro-porosity typical of the process. A small sign of use on the base, invisible when displayed. See photo, part of the description. It’s the piece everyone notices when entering a home. A design object, kinetic sculpture, and homage to one of the greatest graphic geniuses of the 20th century. Increasingly hard to find in this large size. Professional shipping with custom protective packaging.
