Fine Necklace Made of Natural Pearls with Clasp Made of Diamonds in

"The beauty of pearls is well worth the fact that thousands of bold divers, coastal inhabitants of the Persian Gulf, the daring pearl fishermen of Ceylon and Japan do not fear the horrors and dangers of the deep, do not shy away from encounters with sharks and sawfish, do not fear the deadly embrace of polyps in order to bring the pearl oyster lying on the dark seabed to the bright light of the sun." With these haunting words, the magazine Der Bazar described the hardships and dangers of pearl fishing in 1888. In those days, the path to the pearl was inextricably linked with physical exertion, courage and often mortal danger. This fine necklace from the 1920s combines precious genuine Oriental pearls, each of which originated at the bottom of the sea. The pearls are arranged in a slightly graduated pattern and lead to a particularly large natural pearl in the center of the necklace. One can only imagine how many dives must have been necessary to collect the pearls for this piece of jewellery, as not every oyster holds such a treasure. Later on, the necklace was extended with a few cultured pearls to bring it to the beautiful length of 41.0 cm. The natural pearls and cultured pearls combined in this way are a perfect match in terms of color and shape. The pearls are held in place by a precious white gold clasp set with diamonds. Its typical Art Deco design also helps to date the necklace: It was created in the 1920s. We discovered the piece of jewellery here in Berlin and had it restrung so that its future wearer can enjoy it for a long time.
