Alle Auktionen / Schmuck und Edelsteine / Finely Curved Vintage Silver Cufflinks, Blachian, ca. 1960

"Part of the essence of the Baroque, which had its heyday in the 17th century, is the swelling movement of all forms, which powerfully and vividly urge to merge into one another. To the jewellery the baroque curlicues give a special plasticity and lively strength." (From a 1950s Blachian Antique Jewellery (BAS) catalogue) Founded as early as 1742 by Franz Eligius Blachian in Traunstein, Germany, the gold and silversmith Blachian Antik-Schmuck is dedicated to works of the past. Mostly cast in silver, more rarely in gold, the company produced jewellery whose individual forms were taken from works of art from different eras. Thus, in an old Blachian catalogue, in addition to Renaissance elements, Romanesque and Gothic forms and those from the time of the migration of peoples can be found. However, the largest part of Blachian's jewellery creations is made up of Baroque forms. The pair of cufflinks here, made in the mid-20th century, features large sculptural rosettes worked in openwork. The silver is effectively patinated, so that the fronts appear even more plastic. The cufflinks came to us unworn from the estate of a Munich jeweller. It has retained the original label with the former retail price and a description of the Blachian company. The perfect shirt jewellery for the historically interested man of today!
