First edition of J.F.D. Shrewsbury's A History of the Bubonic Plague in the British Isles, published by Cambridge University Press in 1970. A large and controversial study of plague in Britain and Ireland from the Black Death of 1348, it examines the successive epidemics through the evidence of the black rat and its fleas, and argues that the rat was solely responsible for introducing and spreading the disease.
