Flemish or Italian master, 17th century

Descriptio Oil on canvas. Dimensions: 222 x 152 cm. Monumental composition of a religious subject, articulated in two registers, with a pilgrim saint assisted by celestial figures in the upper part and a dramatic group of the sick and afflicted in the foreground. The scene develops an intense narrative of intercession, suffering, and hope through powerful foreshortening, eloquent gestures, and a marked contrast between areas of shadow and highlights. The work stands out for its Baroque theatricality, the robustness of the figures, and the vibrant chromatics of reds, ochres, and blues, characteristics typical of 17th-century devotional painting in the Flemish and Italian spheres. Due to its age and history of use, this lot may show signs of wear and previous interventions. Unless explicitly stated otherwise, no specialized technical testing has been performed. The absence of any mention of restorations does not guarantee that none exist. You may request additional information before placing a bid. This does not affect the buyer’s statutory rights.
