Alle Auktionen / Sonstige / Follower of Jean-Baptiste Greuze (1725-1805) - Portrait of a Young Lady
Follower of Jean-Baptiste Greuze (Tournus, 1725 – Paris, 1805) - Portrait of a Young Lady. 46 x 37.5 cm (without frame) - 51 x 44.5 cm (with frame). Oil on canvas, in carved and gilded wooden frame. The painting depicts the bust of a young woman in three-quarter pose, her gaze directed upward. The chestnut hair is adorned with a wreath of leaves after classical iconography. The dress shows a light drapery over a dark red mantle. The treatment of the flesh tones, the warm chiaroscuro against a dark ground, and the compositional type follow closely the manner of Jean-Baptiste Greuze, author of several analogous compositions, including the Head of a Girl now at Waddesdon Manor. Condition report: Relined canvas. Good overall state of conservation of the pictorial surface, with diffuse traces of old restorations and oxidation of the varnish. This item is sold with a certificate of authenticity with legal validity. - Further informations on the condition report are available upon request. - All shipments are handled with professional packaging. The frame, if present, is to be understood as a gift and therefore its structural integrity during transport is not guaranteed. Note for non-Italian buyers: This work has not yet obtained the certificate of free export from Italy, issued by the Superintendency of Cultural Heritage, which certifies that the work does not belong to the Italian cultural heritage and may therefore be freely exported.
