FONTENELLE (Bernard Le Bovier de). *On Happiness*, followed - Lot 105

FONTENELLE (Bernard Le Bovier de). *On Happiness*, followed by *Aphorisms* and *An Essay on History*. Paris, Éditions d'Art Édouard Pelletan, Helleu et Sergent, 1926. Small 8vo / 12mo (approx. 16 × 10 cm), XXI-148 pp., paperback with a cover lined with cream laid paper, title printed in black on the front cover and spine. Seventh volume in the “Philosophes et Moralistes” collection. Illustrated edition featuring a frontispiece portrait based on a work by Hyacinthe Rigaud and decorative elements by Georges Gorvel. The BnF confirms the 1926 Pelletan edition and its inclusion in this collection. Printed on October 8, 1926, at the Imprimerie Nationale. The photographed proof indicates a limited print run of: 14 copies on Chine paper, 375 on Rives paper, and 1,550 on Navarre-tinted paper, for a total of 1,939 copies—a figure also confirmed by the recovered sales records. This copy bears the number 549. It therefore belongs to the 1,550 copies printed on Navarre-tinted paper. A fine paperback copy with the complete original cover in good condition and clearly legible. A few slight marks and stains, a small crease at the top edge, and minor imperfections at the ends of the spine. The interior appears clean and fresh, with wide margins preserved.
