Fossil tooth - Livyatan Melvillei - biggest known...

Why does it look real? Because it is real stone! Ossatorum Aeterna is a company specializing in the creation of ultra-realistic replicas of dinosaur skeletons and other extinct or endangered animals. Using an innovative mineral-coating technique, our creations achieve an authentic, museum-quality appearance. This unique approach was born from a simple observation: painted replicas often lack realism, while traditional casts, although more faithful, often limit fine anatomical detail. Our hybrid technique combines the best of both worlds—accurately capturing anatomical complexity while reproducing the mineral texture of natural fossils. The result is a level of realism rarely seen outside professional museum collections. Item for Sale: Replica tooth of Livyatan melvillei Overall Dimensions (with base): Length: 15 cm Height: 40cm Depth: 15 cm Discover a museum-quality, ultra-realistic replica of the Livyatan melvillei tooth—crafted for collectors, paleo-artists, and enthusiasts who value scientific fidelity paired with a powerful visual presence. About Livyatan melvillei Livyatan melvillei was a massive apex predator that lived during the Miocene epoch, approximately 12–13 million years ago, in what is now Peru. Closely related to modern sperm whales, Livyatan possessed one of the most formidable skulls of any known marine predator. Its massive jaws were lined with large, functional teeth in both the upper and lower jaws—a rare trait among whales—designed for gripping and tearing large prey. This giant predator likely hunted large marine mammals, including other whales, making it one of the top predators of its time alongside giant sharks such as Megalodon. The skull of Livyatan is a striking example of evolutionary specialization with refined anatomical adaptations for active predation. Key Features (Superior Craftsmanship) Weight and Stability With the base included, the tooth weighs 150g. Its solid construction ensures a stable and secure display suitable for shelves, desks, or exhibition environments. Mineralized Hyper-Realistic Finish This piece has undergone a multi-step artisanal process, including a hand-applied mineral coating that replicates fossilized bone, natural weathering, and the subtle textures found in marine sedimentary fossils. For an enhanced display, directional lighting is recommended. Light interacting with the mineral surface highlights cranial volume, tooth structures, and jaw contours, reinforcing its lifelike appearance. Exceptional Detail Surface textures and anatomical structures are reproduced with remarkable precision, faithfully capturing the powerful jaws, dentition, and distinctive cranial proportions of this iconic marine predator. Museum-Grade Mounting The skull is mounted on a professional metallic support rod fixed to a solid wooden base. Designed as a true display piece, it integrates seamlessly into both private collections and professional exhibition spaces. Material Polymer coated with Ossatorum Aeterna’s hand-applied mineral finish, made from carefully selected natural stones finely ground to reproduce the coloration and texture of authentic fossil material. Scientific Accuracy Based on verified paleontological data and high-resolution scans of fossil specimens, this replica is produced at true 1:1 scale, ensuring anatomical fidelity and a strong scientific presence representative of this extraordinary extinct predator.
