Fossilized Cleoniceras Ammonite with Exquisite Sutural...

Specimen of a Cleoniceras polished with collectible details — This lot presents an exceptional specimen of fossil ammonite belonging to the genus Cleoniceras, found in the Lower Cretaceous deposits of Madagascar. The sample has been carefully sectioned and polished to reveal the fascinating internal structure, highlighting the complex sutural lines that characterize these extinct cephalopods. The preservation is remarkable, allowing a detailed study of its morphology. The sutural lines, typically ammonitic, manifest here in an intricate dendritic pattern, finely delineated and of astonishing clarity against the calcitic and aragonitic filling of the internal chambers. The color variations, ranging from cream white to deep brown-reddish, result from fossilization and secondary mineralization processes, giving the piece an aesthetic depth and intrinsic educational value. The polished outer surface enhances the natural luster of the fossilized shell. The Madagascar provenance is known for the quality and integrity of its Cretaceous ammonite fossils, a period when Cleoniceras were particularly widespread and represented agile and versatile predators in ancient seas. The surrounding rock matrix, although partially removed by the polishing, testifies to the sedimentary conditions that allowed such perfect preservation of this marine invertebrate, preserving the finest details. Aesthetically, the piece stands out for the marked contrast between the delicate ramification of the sutures and the solidity of the fossilized shell. The harmonious spiral, typical of the logarithmic geometry of ammonites, is visible and well preserved, offering a fascinating visual insight into the evolution of natural shapes. The polishing has further enhanced the iridescences and surface textures, making every angle a point of interest. The preservation state is excellent, with no significant fractures or invasive restorations. The cutting and polishing work was carried out with skill, ensuring structural integrity and the exaltation of the fossil’s most exquisite features. This specimen does not require additional display support, being viewable from several angles. For the mineral and fossil collector, this Cleoniceras represents an opportunity to acquire a reference specimen for the study of sutural lines and Mesozoic paleontology. Its size and level of detail make it a museum-quality piece, ideal for enriching specialized collections or as a centerpiece of display, standing out clearly from ordinary specimens for its preservation and visual impact.
