Fossilized wood ball set – two fascinating natural stone...

Million-year-old natural history in an extraordinary form: this impressive 2-piece set of fossilized wood has been crafted into large, highly polished spheres and beautifully preserves visible structures of the original wood. The two spheres could hardly be more colorfully varied. The left specimen captivates with intense orange, copper, honey, and cream tones that streak across the stone in broad, lively bands. The natural grain still clearly resembles grown wood fibers in places and gives the sphere a warm, almost fiery glow. The second sphere forms an exciting counterpoint. Here, dark chocolate brown, black-brown, cream and distinct pink to purple patches dominate. Especially the strong elongated structures provide an extraordinary sense of depth and make this piece a true eye-catcher. Because of the spherical form, the pattern can be viewed all around — with every turn the image changes and new grain patterns, color fields, and mineralized structures become visible. The careful polishing further enhances the color intensity and superbly showcases the preserved details of the fossilized wood. As a pair, an exciting interplay between warm fire-orange and deep earthy tones emerges. At the same time, each sphere is a completely individual natural product, whose patterns do not occur exactly the same twice. Natural lines, mineral inclusions, small depressions and fine irregularities belong to the original character of the petrified wood and tell of its natural formation. An extraordinary duo of spheres made from petrified wood — two unique pieces of Earth's history, artfully polished and with a color and grain variety that makes each sphere a one-of-a-kind collectible. The stands are NOT Included. Stone: petrified wood Weight: 2281.97 g Size: - Treatment: None Origin: Madagascar It is a fossil wood dating back 200 million years, all parts from a log or branches have been silicified, meaning that organic components were little by little replaced by silicon in the form of jasper, chalcedony and more rarely opal. Without the organic parts, all the living matter was replaced by stone: there are growth rings, cell separations, almost like worm cracks. Its features are those of the mineral that would have pseudo-transformed the wood: the silicon. And that’s what we call a "petrified wood" in the common language.
