François, Comte de GRIGNAN (1676 - 1714). François ADHÉMAR de MONTEIL de GRIGNAN, Duc de Termoli, Comte de Grignan et de Campobasso, Marquis d'Entrecasteaux, was an Aristocrat, Lieutenant-General and Governor of Provence and the son-in-law of Madame de SÉVIGNÉ - Autograph letter signed, to Conicou June 28, 1707. 2 pages ( 22 x 17 cm) : I judged, Sir, that the Courier of Mr Prince de MONACO, would have brought you the same news that I received yesterday night from Mr de RAVASSEQ, that Mr Duke de SAVOYE (Victor-Amédée who commanded the Imperials) sent, on the 20th of this month, orders, to a Quartermaster General of the Emperor's Troops, to have him provide, by the communities, This officer, being in the Vallée d'Entraigues on the 23rd, wrote to the syndic of the Vallée de St Martin, asking him to work on repairing the roads as far as Madonna de la Finestre (Alpes-Maritimes), and towards Rocabigliera (Roquebillière 06) and Lantosca (Lantosque 06), places close to the lower Var. It was to be expected that they would have given the same orders towards La Breille and Saorgio. I first wrote the news to Mr. Maréchal de TESSÉ. I expect we'll be at Le Bausset. Mr Marquis de Sailey and I, and at least tonight in Toulon. I also hope to have the honor of seeing you there...GRIGNAN." Victor-Amédée was preparing his penetration through the Vésubie Valley.
