François-Xavier Lalanne (1927-2008) Actéon, 2005 Vernis mou et pointe sèche sur papier, signée au crayon par François Xavier Lalanne, en parfait état de conservation Dimensions du papier : 38 x 28 cm (14,96 x 11 inches) Dimensions de la gravure : 18 x 20,5 cm (7 x 8 pouces) Avec son épouse Claude, François Xavier Lalanne (1908-2008) est le sculpteur français le plus célèbre de la seconde moitié du vingtième siècle. Son œuvre est caractérisée par l'imagerie animale. Il a étudié l'art à l'Académie Julian à Paris. À son arrivée à Paris, il a été présenté à de nombreuses figures surréalistes et modernistes, telles que Man Ray, Max Ernst, Marcel Duchamp, Niki de Saint Phalle, Jean Tinguely et Constantin Brancusi. Il est particulièrement connu pour ses moutons, poissons, oiseaux... Soutenu par des galeristes comme Alexandre Iolas, Leo Castelli, Paul Kasmin et Ben Brown, son travail a été très tôt collectionné par de grands connaisseurs, parmi lesquels Yves Saint Laurent, Pierre Bergé, Karl Lagerfeld, Peter Marino, Valentino, Terry de Gunzburg, Alberto Pinto, les Rothschild, les Noailles, Jane Holzer, Michael Shvo, Georges Pompidou, Roman Abramovich, Jacques Grange...
