Friedensreich Hundertwasser (1928-2000) - A Rainy Day on the Regentag - HWG 48

Friedensreich Hundertwasser (1928–2000) “A Rainy Day on the Regentag” (Regen auf Regentag) Original color screen print from 1972, sheet 5 of the graphics portfolio "Look at it on a Rainy Day." Elaborately executed screen print in 16 colors with metal embossings in five colors on metallic cardboard. The characteristic, intensely luminous color fields, organic shapes, and metallic-reflective elements give the composition exceptional spatial depth and liveliness. The motif is based on Hundertwasser’s painting of the same name from 1968 and reflects his particular relationship to the sea, to rain, and to his ship “Regentag.” Work details: Artist: Friedensreich Hundertwasser (1928–2000) Title: A Rainy Day on the Regentag (Regen auf Regentag) Creation/Edition: 1971, issued 1972 Technique: Color screen print in 16 colors with metal embossings in five colors on metallic cardboard Publisher: Ars Viva, Zürich Print: Dietz Offizin, Lengmoos, Bavaria Edition: 3,000 copies Numbering: 391/3000 (mechanically numbered) Signature: hand-signed in the print Catalogue: Fürst HWG 48 / Work number 676A Sheet size: 67 × 47.5 cm Image size: 58.5 × 44.5 cm Framing size: 105 × 82.5 cm A especially noteworthy feature is the extraordinary framing: The work is housed in a highly decorative, meticulously designed frame, whose design harmonizes superbly with Hundertwasser’s unmistakable visual language. The silver surfaces are traversed by colored, flowing lines, circular shapes, and teardrop ornaments. This creates a remarkable unification of design between the graphic and the framing. The generously sized, color-coordinated beige mat emphasizes the intense colorfulness of the screen print and gives it an impressive presence. With its overall format of 105 × 82.5 cm, the framed work forms an unusually decorative and representative ensemble. The framing is far more than a simple border and makes a significant contribution to the overall effect. Condition: The graphic work is in good preservation condition. Inside the glazed frame there are partial dust or dirt accumulations. A professional cleaning during a possible restretching or opening of the frame would be possible. The elaborately designed frame is also in good condition. It shows slight, age- and use-related surface traces, but no damages.
