Funny Brooch In Silver & Gold With Diamonds And Sapphires, Around

The monkeys are loose! Two of the rascals are just waiting to take a seat on their lapels and start their pranks. One monkey has made itself comfortable on a pole. With its blue sapphire eyes it looks into the world, with its long arms it keeps its balance safely, and its fur made of diamonds glitters happily in the light. His playmate is more exuberant: on a ring he swings wildly back and forth. His body is also set with diamonds, and his eyes of blue sapphires add beautiful accents of color to the design. Two sky blue sapphires at the end points of the bar frame the scene with subtle play of colour. The brooch here, made of silver, gold and the 102 gemstones, was created in the years around 1910 as part of a major fashion wave that encompassed all of Europe, known as Novelty Jewellery. Animal-shaped brooches in particular were all the rage at the time: they could be used to strike up casual conversations, express one's own preferences, and even discreetly flirt with the other person. However, the shape of our brooch, which presents two little monkeys, is not commonplace: The lower comrade swings back and forth freely on a golden chain, allowing the eye to land on the brooch again and again. The piece of jewellery came to us with a trim of glass stones, some of which were already missing. We removed the similis stones and set the two monkeys with a total of 96 diamonds weighing about 1.90 ct together. The gem setter used different sized gemstones and covered the bodies of the monkeys with diamonds all over. Thus, the fur of the two comrades glitters and sparkles in a radiant light. First-class equipped, the brooch is thus not only a particularly beautiful testimony to the jewellery culture of the years around 1910, but also today a coversation starter and statement piece in one.
