Gennaro Santaniello - Quite gaze

Quiet Gaze is an original oil painting on canvas, measuring 24 × 30 cm. The work is part of my ongoing exploration of contemporary portraiture, focusing on the subtle relationship between presence, expression and identity. The composition is deliberately simple. A neutral background removes any narrative context, leaving the face and, above all, the gaze as the central elements of the painting. The direct look of the subject creates a quiet tension between intimacy and distance. The face is carefully modelled through subtle variations of light and skin tones, while the hair and its contours are treated more freely, allowing visible lines and painterly traces to remain part of the finished work.
