Gerhard Richter (1932) - Signiert - “Entwurf für das...

This exceptional and rare, hand-signed Art Print by Gerhard Richter presents his famous design for the window of the south transept of the Cologne Cathedral from 2007 — one of the best-known projects of the internationally renowned German artist. Signed in the bottom right with a silver felt-tip pen. For the monumental window in the south transept of the Cologne Cathedral, Richter developed an abstract composition of thousands of small colored squares. The design is based on a geometric grid in which a wide range of hues come together to form a captivating overall image. The design shown here highlights the impressive Gothic window architecture with its tall, slender lancet windows and the richly arranged tracery. The numerous small color squares in red, blue, green, yellow and other bright tones create a vibrant contrast to the deep-black architectural outlines. Richter deliberately avoided traditional religious imagery and instead created a window whose impact arises solely from color, light, and geometric structure. In the actual cathedral window, this composition unfolds as daylight enters, transforming the church interior into a fascinating interplay of colored light reflections. The work is set in a deep black frame, which gives the impression of a real window. This special framing emphasizes the architectural character of the motif and provides an optimal presentation of the artwork.
