Frankfurt am Main, Free City – Vereinsdoppeltaler 1841 (2 Taler / 3½ Gulden) Vs.: FREIE STADT / FRANKFURT. The crowned Frankfurt eagle with outstretched wings. Rs.: VEREINSMÜNZE. Value 3½ / GULDEN / 2 / THALER / 1841 in five lines within a closed oak wreath, bottom VII ONE MARK. Silver (900/1000), approx. 37 g, Ø approx. 40–41 mm. AKS 2; Jaeger 23; Thun 131; Kahnt 182; Davenport 641; KM 329. A particularly appealing specimen of this classic Frankfurt double taler from the era of the Free City. The Frankfurt eagle is sturdy and intricately detailed, clearly visible in the feathering and in the crown. The surfaces appear harmonious and still show traces of the original mint lustre. The double taler was the largest silver coin of the German Customs Union and is an impressive witness to Frankfurt coin history before 1866. Condition: Small edge flaw, very nice – fine.
