After incomplete biology studies and further exploration of artistic studies, he enrolled at the Scuola del Nudi in Catania and in 1980 began his painting activity, starting from the Magrittean example and later from De Chirico, where it was possible to resolve two apparently contradictory layers, dream and objective reality, in a sort of absolute reality. At the base of his research is a strong drive aimed at solving the great dilemmas of existence and the relationship between self and world, attempting to interpret the “thought” often as infallible passages—the work of the artist Giovanni Greco—ineffable as a means to cast a new light on the fundamental problems our mind cannot stop liberating itself from, staging visual blackmail, soul blackmail; further on, he is drawn to metaphysical painting and mainly to the works of G. De Chirico, not so much for stylistic choices but for the sustained interest expressed in a solid compositional approach; objects, figures and even space become powerful masses given by dark, lush chromatic volumes in a context where time seems stopped and the subjects suspended between metaphysical influence and neoclassical allusions drawn from past works shaken by time, in a world unknown. It is the world of the “éndonèxò,” a term coined by the artist—(éndon-éxò)—where the gaze is clearly directed inward toward oneself and into things but at the same time conveys his desire to bring his painting closer to the observer’s lived experience, rising from the depths of the soul and progressively replacing, with new dark forces, the bright and simple spaces of reason.
