Glamorous Vintage Bracelet With Diamonds Set in White Gold, c. 1955

Countless leaves of sparkling diamonds in high-carat white gold: the bracelet here leaves a magnificent impression in its richness and opulent use of materials. In the center, the band widens to present feathery pairs of leaves that seem to shimmer in the glistening light of the gemstones. The bracelet not only inspires with the precious materials from which it was made, it is also a quite wonderful example of high-quality evening jewellery of the 1950s. In the 1950s, the separation of jewellery for the day and jewellery for the evening, already known in the 19th century, continued to apply. Only diamonds in white gold or platinum settings were now permitted for balls and receptions, sometimes enriched by individual rubies, sapphires or emeralds. Bracelets all in white - like this piece - were indispensable components of the luxurious jewellery wardrobe. What distinguishes these designs from later decades is that, in addition to their material luxury, they also display a strong formal language. Here, diamonds are not just strung next to each other and the delight of the eyes in the play of light is relied upon. Rather, glimpses of tropical vegetation open up, even ribbons and lengths of fabric perform a dance full of dynamism. In this, in this delight in plastic design, the jewellery of the 1950s are still completely related to the late Art Deco, the so-called "Retro Style". Our bracelet, which we therefore date to the 1950s, is also very close to this style. The bracelet, which found its way to us from a high quality Hanseatic estate, is accompanied by an independent appraisal which has confirmed the quality of the diamonds.
