"We already look at the green of the herbs and leaves with pleasure. But we like the emeralds even better, for their green is the most beautiful of all. Moreover, they are the only precious stones that fill the eyes without saturating them; indeed, when the eyes are weakened by exertions of other kinds, they are strengthened again by looking at emeralds [...] for their soft green dispels their languor." (Pliny, Nat. Hist. 37.16.) The beauty and effect of gemstones already fascinated the ancients. The quote reproduced here comes from Pliny the Elder, a Roman scholar from Como. In 77 AD, he compiled the knowledge of nature at the time in a work called Naturalis Historia or Natural History. The gemstone, whose color he describes so exuberantly, was also chosen here as the magnificent setting for an elegant bracelet. Eighteen natural, intensely green emeralds are shaped in a classic step cut and together weigh around twelve carats. The emeralds are accompanied by a total of 144 white diamonds with a total weight of around 6.48 ct. The band wraps itself around the wrist in an even pattern. The silver links allow the gemstones to shine. The bracelet was created around 1965 and, according to the hallmark, was exported to France at a later date. It still looks modern today with its abstract yet luxurious design. We have had an independent appraisal carried out on the bracelet, which confirms the quality of the materials used.
