Gleaming Polished Ammonite Fossil with Fiery Aragonite...

Lower Cretaceous - 100-110 million years ago — A piece of natural history that is also a work of art. This magnificent specimen of fossil ammonite of the genus Cleoniceras, coming from Madagascar's deposits, has been skillfully sectioned and polished to reveal the extraordinary complexity of its inner world. Dated to the Cretaceous period, about 110 million years ago, this fossil is a tangible testament to a remote era, an open portal to prehistoric seas. The glossy surface captures the light, highlighting an incredibly detailed pattern of sutures. These natural motifs, which delineate the internal chambers of the shell, draw elegant foliated arabesques reminiscent of fern leaves. The warm tones of amber, brown, and cream blend into a fascinating color composition, making every detail a small masterpiece of natural design. The enchantment of this specimen is further enhanced by the aragonite crystallizations that formed inside some cavities. Like tiny geodes, these crystalline aggregates glitter as the angle of light changes, creating a striking contrast with the opalescent fossil matrix and adding precious three-dimensionality to the whole. Ammonites, extinct mollusks cephalopods, dominated the Mesozoic oceans. The genus Cleoniceras is one of the most representative of the Aptian period. Their spiral shell was not only protection but also a sophisticated lifting apparatus, whose internal structure is perfectly preserved in this fossil. This specimen is not only a fossil of great interest but also an object of rare beauty, ideal for enriching a mineral collection, a modern Wunderkammer, or to lend a touch of elegance and history to any environment. A piece that blends science, art, and design in a form that is timeless.
