These colorations are tied to the presence of iron oxides and hydroxides, particularly hematite and goethite, which can concentrate along ancient fractures and discontinuities of the crystal. Geologically, materials of this type are especially known in Brazil, especially in the mineralogical areas of Minas Gerais, where extensive hydrothermal quartz vein systems formed through the circulation of silica-rich fluids within rock fractures and cavities. In later stages, iron-containing fluids may have impregnated or coated these same discontinuities, creating the characteristic red, orange, and gold tones observable in the quartz.
