Golden pyrite with sphalerite

From our selection of collectible minerals we present a splendid group of Pyrite crystals with Sphalerite, Quartz and Dolomite from the Herja Mine, Baia Mare, Romania. Moreover, it is characterized by a dense association of shiny black Sphalerite crystals interleaved with bright golden Pyrite crystals, as well as white Quartz crystals and yellow Dolomite covering the matrix, which enhance its aesthetic value and mineralogical importance. The specimen stands out for the quality of crystallization and for the overall aesthetic balance, with features that enhance its natural structure and visual impact. The Herja Mine, located in the Baia Mare mining district in Romania, has been known for centuries (historical name Kisbánya) for its polymetallic deposits of lead, zinc, copper, silver and gold, and is today one of the most appreciated localities in the world for splendid sphalerite and pyrite specimens. The golden color of Pyrite stems from its cubic crystal structure and the high content of iron and sulfur, while the dark color of Sphalerite in this case is linked to the presence of iron in the structure (marmatitic variety). Dolomite, calcium carbonate and magnesium, often takes yellow or brownish tones due to iron impurities. This is an ideal specimen for mineral collections, display, and for those who appreciate the natural beauty of minerals, also in the field of crystal therapy and lithotherapy, according to the properties traditionally associated with the mineral species. All minerals are 100% natural and untreated, with rare exceptions always indicated in the description. Photographs are taken with professional lighting to best highlight colors and details; however, slight tonal variations may occur depending on the device or ambient light.
