A very beautiful work with a lovely rendering of colors A certificate of authenticity (COA) provided by Darren Zint will be included with the shipment. Who is Gracie Morton Pwerle? She began her artistic career, like most Utopia artists, with the introduction of the batik technique in the 1970s before turning to painting on canvas in the late 1980s. Gracie mainly draws inspiration from her Dream of Wild Plum, Amwekety. This plant holds great importance for the Aborigines of Utopia (the Anmatyerre and the Alyawarre who live in the Eastern Desert). It is important both as a vitamin C-rich food and for the spiritual significance of this Dream, of which Gracie is one of the custodians. She inherited the rights to this Dream from her father and aunt. She paints it in the manner of other desert artists, like an aerial view. The background color of the canvas describes the season since the plum tree can bloom with flowers during the winter months but changes completely in appearance between the wet season and the dry season. By using very fine dots she creates a three-dimensional effect. This style, close in technique to a few Utopia artists such as Kathleen Petyarre, the Purvis family (Kathleen), and especially Anna Petyarre or Abie Loy, ... takes on a very personal aspect by emphasizing the very structure of the Dream of Wild Plum (just a few lines blended into the dotted background). It is this distinctive style that allowed Gracie to make a name for herself in the late 1990s. Today her works are very often exhibited in major shows, not only in the large Australian cities but also in Europe or the USA. The work will be shipped un-stretched in a cardboard shipping tube
