GRIMME (Ernst Günther). Jan Vermeer of Delft. Paris, Éditions du Chêne, n.d. Large quarto, publisher’s hardcover with a color-illustrated dust jacket. A major monograph devoted to Johannes Vermeer (1632–1675). Ernst Günther Grimme situates the painter’s work within the context of Delft and 17th-century Dutch painting, paying particular attention to light, spatial composition, interiors, and the depiction of fabrics. Richly illustrated in black and white and color, including numerous full-page reproductions: *Girl with a Pearl Earring*, *The Lace Maker*, *The Music Lesson*, *Girl with a Glass of Wine*, and *View of Delft*. The book also reproduces historical documents, notably a map of Delft. A beautiful copy in its illustrated dust jacket.
