Guglielmo Achille Cavellini (Brescia, 1914 – 1990) Fotografia di un'opera distrutta poi ingabbiata bruciata e riproposta da g.a. cavellini, 1971 Mixed media and collage on boarded cardboard Artwork dimensions: 59.5 x 42.5 cm Framed dimensions: approx. 65 x 48 cm Signature, dating and autograph inscriptions: • Front: hand-signed and dated 1971 by the artist at the lower right beneath the conceptual text. • Back: fully autograph with signature, full title, dating (1971) and measurements. Historical-critical framing: A historic work of exceptional conceptual significance created in 1971, the pivotal year in which Guglielmo Achille Cavellini theorized and launched the famous Autostoricizzazione (Self-historicization) cycle. In this work the artist documents the destruction, burning, and encaging of a previous work (No. 90), assembling the central photographic testimony, the typographic inserts, and the autograph statement on the card. An emblematic piece of Cavellini's neo-Dadaist and conceptual poetics, a precursor of Mail Art and internationally celebrated for his radical questioning of the contemporary art system. Condition and framing: • Condition: very good condition. Cardboard intact, collage solid and the typical warm browning of the support consistent with the early seventies. • Framing: the work is enclosed within a sober, essential natural wood frame, ready to be exhibited. The frame is included as a protective courtesy. Shipping and packaging: Specialist high-protection packaging with double rigid panels and high-density bubble wrap. Fast, tracked, and insured shipping via international express courier.
