Feldmann’s practice centred on collecting, organising and presenting existing images and commonplace objects. He frequently assembled photographs from magazines, newspapers, postcards and family albums, arranging them into books, sequences and installations. By appropriating and recontextualising visual material, he drew attention to the familiarity, repetition and cultural associations embedded within everyday imagery. Feldmann’s work is characterised by its apparent simplicity, subtle humour and visual curiosity. By making small interventions in familiar imagery, he challenges conventional ideas of artistic authorship and originality, demonstrating how the selection, alteration and presentation of existing material can transform the ordinary into something unexpectedly compelling. The present work Two Girls with Shadow exemplifies his interest in the manipulation and reinterpretation of found photographs. The composition features two girls, one of whom has been cut out of the original image, creating a striking visual intervention. This deliberate alteration disrupts the photograph’s apparent naturalism, drawing attention to the construction of images and the relationship between presence and absence. The shadow further complicates the composition, introducing questions about perception, representation and the traces left by human figures
