Hector Filippi (1893-1965) - Bouquet de fleurs

### Hector Filippi (1893-1965) **Bouquet de fleurs** Oil on canvas by the French painter **Hector Filippi (1893-1965)**, depicting an elegant still life floral arrangement consisting of a bouquet of carnations arranged in a ceramic jar. The composition is built around the vessel in the foreground, from which emerges a set of white, pink, and red flowers. The artist places the different elements with notable balance, combining the intense tones of the flowers with a more restrained range of greens, earth tones, and grays in the background. The work is especially notable for the **richness of the painterly material and the loose brushwork**, particularly visible in the petals and leaves. The treatment of the flowers avoids an excessively rigid drawing and favors a spontaneous execution, constructed through strokes of color and tonal variations that give volume and vitality to the whole. The dark background and the presence of the broad folds of fabric help to focus attention on the bouquet, while the jar in light tones acts as a balancing element within the composition. The contrast between the brighter flowers and the deeper areas of the background generates an attractive sense of depth. **Hector Filippi (1893-1965)** was a French painter whose known production includes landscapes, views of Corsica and still lifes. His work regularly appears documented on the French and international auction market, with paintings devoted to Corsican localities and landscapes such as Erbalunga, Campile, the Îles Sanguinaires, or Cap Corse, as well as various floral compositions. Precisely, within his production there are documented in auction several **still lifes with flowers**, among them works titled *Still life with roses* and *Bouquet de roses*, which allows placing the present painting within a well-represented vein in his career. There is also evidence of his artistic activity in Corsica: patrimonial documentation of the Collectivité de Corse mentions works by Filippi in 1960 for the oratory of the confrérie Saint-Roch of Bastia. The present painting constitutes an attractive example of his floral production, characterized here by a **direct brushstroke, a harmonious palette and a marked decorative sensibility**. **Author:** Hector Filippi (1893-1965). **Technique:** oil on canvas. **Genre:** still life / floral bouquet. **Signature:** signed in the lower left corner.
