Rare copy of this youth adventure novel from the Belle Époque, published at the beginning of the 20th century in the famous “Collection des Mille et une Aventuress.” The work is bound in its remarkable publisher’s red percaline hardcover. The first pastedown features a large polychrome illustration signed by Joseph Beuzon, highly representative of escape narratives and South American pampas (horsemen, action scenes, and lush vegetation). The second pastedown presents the publisher’s typical cold-pressed circular badge. Characteristics & Condition: - Binding: Percaline in good overall condition. The colors of the first cover are vivid. The spine percaline shows light fading / wear at the head and tail. - Interior: Complete. Presence of scattered foxing typical for papers of this period, not hindering the reading of illustrations and text. - Gatherings: The overall structure remains solid. A beautiful piece for collectors of decorated bindings and early 20th-century popular adventure literature. Prompt and careful shipping.
