Hippocrates - Hippocratis Opera [FIRST EDITION WITH "LIBRI DE FRACTURIS"]

DESCRIPTION: I present at auction one of the absolute pinnacles of Renaissance medical bibliography: Hippocrates' Opera Omnia in the monumental edition and translation by the celebrated French physician Anuce Foës (Anvtio Foesio). This Frankfurt edition from 1596 (M. D. XCVI.) stands out for a fundamental historiographical milestone: it is the First Edition in history to include Palladius’ comments on the treatise on fractures (Palladij Scholia in lib. de Fracturis), never printed before and translated for the first time from Greek into Latin directly for this work. SINGULAR WORK OF DEBOSSING IN DRY EMBOSSING ON THE PAGES: The copy presents an ornamental detail of extraordinary bibliophile value and highly rare in the old book market: + Gofrados Edges with 16th-Century Florals: The three edges of the block of leaves (front, upper, and lower) showcase an elaborate handcrafted dry embossing, featuring beautiful stylized floral motifs and rosettes pressed into the paper itself. + Renaissance Luxury Technique: This finish, done manually with hot punches on the edges before or during binding, was a distinction reserved for the most prized volumes of princely and scholarly libraries of the time. THE MOST ADVANCED CONTENTS OF ANCIENT MEDICINE: This magnificent compendium gathers the Corpus Hippocraticum structured in eight key sections, addressing the most impactful, surgical, and dynamic areas of medicine: + The Treatise on Fractures (De Fracturis) and Luxations: Section VI contains anatomical wisdom on reducing broken bones, dislocated joints, the mechanics of the Vectiarium (instruments of surgical traction) and the treatment of head wounds (De capitis vulneribus). + Gynaecology, Parturition, and Hidden Embryology: Exhaustive treatises on the nature of woman (De natura muliebri), births at seven and eight months (De septimestri / octimestri partu), superfetation (De superfætatione), and the awe-inspiring procedure for the extraction of a dead fetus in the womb (De fœtus in vtero mortui exectione). + Aforisms, Hippocratic Oath, and Epidemics: Includes the iconic Hippocratic Oath (Hippocratis iusiurandum), treatises on waters and airs, and clinical descriptions of pestilential fevers and popular diseases (De morbis populariter graffantibus).
