HONG KONG (SAR). Chartered Bank of India, Australia & China. 500 Dollars

A Stately 1912 'Spider Web' $500 Specimen HONG KONG (SAR). Chartered Bank of India, Australia & China. 500 Dollars, 1.3.1912. P-46as. KNB31S. Specimen. PMG Extremely Fine 40. A phenomenal offering for the 1912 Chartered Bank $500 specimen. This 'Spider Web' $500, so called because of the wavy underprint on the obverse, is the highest denomination of the Chartered Bank 'Scenic' series issued spanning from 1911 to 1929. The $500 was issued from 1912 to 1926. This 'holy grail' note, in either specimen or issued form, has not been recorded at public auction for a number of years, and there is always a high demand for it, as it is arguably the most challenging note to source for collectors attempting to complete the full 'Scenic' set across the three contemporary issuing banks. The note has undergone moderate handling, with light toning along the right and lower borders, but with perfect preservation of the purple-red and black colours that dominate the obverse. No tears, pinholes, or repairs and one of just three notes graded by PMG across all the different dates, confirming its great rarity. Do not miss this wonderful opportunity to complete your collection! Estimate: $40,000 - $60,000. PMG Extremely Fine 40.
