Horse mussel Taxidermy full body mount - Modiolus modiolus - 13 cm

Large half-shell of Modiolus modiolus (Horse Mussel) on an elegant pedestal in antiqued patinated metal – Wunderkamammer style Fascinating decorative and collectible item, perfect for lovers of marine biology, malacology, and eclectic home accessories in the Cabinet of Curiosities style. The lot comprises a large, bifacial and intact shell of Modiolus modiolus (commonly known as Horse Mussel or Great North Mussel), measuring about 13 cm in length. The shell displays a beautiful natural texture: the dark original periostracum, partially eroded with time, reveals the underlying calcareous shell with delicate chalky and purplish hues. The shell is mounted elegantly on a vintage metal pedestal worked and patinated, enriched with geometric and floral ornamental details on the square base. This combination gives the natural specimen the dignity of an art sculpture and allows for perfect vertical display on desks, bookshelves, or display cases. * Species: Modiolus modiolus (Linnaeus, 1758) * Total dimensions (including base): 27 cm. * Dimensions of the shell alone: about 13 cm * Conditions: Excellent structural condition, solid and sealed shell, natural wear of the periostracum attesting to its authenticity and age. Stable metal base with a splendid patina. The lot will be packed with extreme care and protected against shocks to ensure safe shipping.
