Hugo Berten (1894-1959) - European Roller (Coracias garrulus)

A remarkable painting, and furthermore very well painted!, of a so-called Coracias garrulus (European Roller, Scharrelaar) and a crimson-throated bearded bird, both perched on a branch in a somewhat, stylized setting with rocks and cacti. Oil on canvas, 60x70 cm. (painting), signed lower right and in good condition. Hugo Berten (1894-1959) is best known for his fine floral still lifes; this is an exceptional subject in his oeuvre!
