Splendid Russian Sacred Icon depicting the Mother of God of Černigov-Gethsemane with the Infant Jesus, both adorned with regal crowns. The work is a refined period chromolithograph applied to a solid thick wooden panel, a technique typical of the renowned Russian manufactories of the 20th century. The metallic gold/bronze background is finely relief-worked with geometric motifs (guilloché effect) to simulate the precious work of metal coverings (riza/oklad). In the side cartouches and at the bottom the sacred monograms and the original inscription in ecclesiastical Slavic identifying the subject (Черниговская) are clearly visible. This is the systematic abbreviation of "Черниговская Пресвятая Богородица" which translates as "The Most Holy Mother of God of Černigov".
