In modern literature Ultima Thule is used to refer to the farthest place in the world. The glass by Tapio Wirkkala likewise refers to the icy corners of Scandinavia and the pronounced expressive power of Finnish glass. Wirkkala’s design from ’68 contributed to the national breakthrough of Iittala and is a unique design. The texture of the glass is created by a time-consuming technique that arises as the molten glass burns the surface of the wooden molds. The older factory sticker has unfortunately not survived cleaning but is thankfully captured in the photos. Vintage set of 6 Ultima Thule shot or liqueur glasses.
