(C.N.A.: Compagnie nationale des artistes français aux Indes) The central panel: the background features a soft golden-beige/champagne hue with a silky, moiré effect. At its centre is a large, multi-lobed circular medallion adorned with a heart of roses, surrounded by a dense garland of wildflowers and stylised foliage. Four spandrels are decorated with broad acanthus scrolls featuring gilded coils, framing polychrome floral bouquets. Hanging garlands and flowering branches (mainly rosebuds) connect the corners to the medallion, structuring the space. The borders: an inner border featuring a geometric pattern of ovals and gilded friezes, and a wide outer border in French blue and turquoise, which encircles the carpet and creates a striking contrast with the warm tones of beige and old gold. This carpet draws direct inspiration from the classical French repertoire (Louis XIV and Louis XV styles), characterised by a rigorous, symmetrical and richly floral composition. Hand-knotted carpet in the Savonnerie style (dense, silky, high-quality wool pile, thick and closely cut, offering a sumptuous appearance and a very comfortable feel, unlike flat-woven Aubusson-type carpets); the carpet has been cleaned and is mounted on a cotton backing.
