Islamic Silver Ring with Engraved Carnelian and Decorated Shoulders - 17th to 19th Century AD An Islamic silver ring featuring a substantial raised bezel set with a rectangular carnelian with softly rounded corners. The stone displays a deep reddish-brown colour and an engraved motif that appears lighter against its polished background. Broad projecting tabs secure the carnelian, while the surrounding silver setting forms an architectural frame decorated with small raised elements and geometric panels. The shoulders are elaborately worked, combining curved, leaf-like projections with circular medallions containing worn relief decoration. These details create a sculptural transition between the prominent bezel and the broad hoop. The underside of the setting displays intersecting incised lines forming a star-like geometric design, extending the ornament to an area normally concealed when the ring is worn. The silver shows uneven dark toning, surface scratches, small pits and softened ornament. Abrasion is also visible on the carnelian, particularly across its engraved decoration. The contrast between the warm red stone and the textured silverwork emphasises the substantial construction and detailed ornament of the ring.
