Title: Capriccio di Porto School: Italian Baroque (19th century) Style: Late Baroque – Port Capriccio Technique: Oil on canvas Circle / artistic influence: Work linked to the Italian tradition of the capriccio and port views rooted in Venetian tradition, a genre widely developed during the 17th and 18th centuries and extended through the 19th. The composition shows influences of Italian scenic painting, combining architectures, vessels, and small figures within an imaginary port. In conception, it recalls the tradition of vedute painters and Italian port landscapes, without implying a direct attribution to a specific author. In the foreground lies a stone quay animated by various figures engaged in activities related to port life. Barrels, merchandise and characters arranged along the water provide a narrative and everyday component. To the left, a large architectural structure acts as a framing element and visually leads toward a coastal landscape with buildings, mountains, and other vessels.
