J.B. jacob petit - Figure - Coppia boccette per profumi (2) - Porcelain

A pair of porcelain scent bottles (or scent burners) from the Old Paris (Vieux Paris) manufactory, depicting a sultan and a sultana in Ottoman attire, produced by Jacob Petit (Paris, France), datable to the mid-19th century (circa 1840-1860). Made in hard-paste porcelain, glazed, finished and hand-painted. Glossy white enamel with rich gilt highlights in bright 24-karat gold, both glossy and matte relief. The gilded details embellish the floral motifs on the garments, the edges of the cloaks, the tassels, the belts, and the details of the headgear. The initials "J.P." in cobalt blue cursive are applied under the glass on the base bottoms. The male figure (the sultan) features a thick beard, wears a decorated turban and a richly patterned mantle, with one hand resting at the waist. The female figure (the sultana) wears an exotic headdress adorned, a long dress with matching motifs, and a draped mantle. Both figures rest on rococo-scroll molded bases, flanked by small integrated conical containers in the structure. Overall good condition with normal signs of wear and age; to report: a missing piece at the sultan’s head, the bottle mouth, see photos, and wear to the gilding. Height is about 26 cm.
