Messerschmitt Me 262 – Complete Four-Volume Set (Volumes 1–4) J. Richard Smith & Eddie J. Creek Classic Publications, 1997–2000 A complete set of the highly regarded four-volume study of the Messerschmitt Me 262 by J. Richard Smith and Eddie J. Creek. Published by Classic Publications between 1997 and 2000, this monumental work is one of the most comprehensive studies devoted to the Messerschmitt Me 262, the world’s first operational jet fighter. The four large-format hardcover volumes contain a wealth of historical material gathered during decades of research, including numerous period photographs, many rare or previously unpublished, technical drawings, colour profiles, maps, diagrams and detailed accounts from German and Allied pilots and other contemporary sources. Together the four volumes form a chronological history of the Me 262, from its conception and development, through testing and production, to operational service during the final years of the Second World War and subsequent Allied evaluation. The set consists of: Volume One – 1997 Classic Publications, Burgess Hill, West Sussex ISBN 0-9526867-2-4 224 pages Covers the origins and development of the Me 262, including the prototypes, pre-production aircraft, technical development and early testing. Extensively illustrated with photographs, technical drawings and colour artwork. Volume Two – 1998 Classic Publications, Burgess Hill, West Sussex ISBN 0-9526867-3-2 Pages 225–444 Continues the history into operational development and deployment, including the introduction of the Me 262 into Luftwaffe service and its use as both fighter and fighter-bomber. Volume Three – 2000 Classic Publications Limited, Crowborough, East Sussex ISBN 1-903223-00-8 Pages 445–670 Deals in detail with the operational use of the Me 262, including daylight defence of Germany and the development and use of night-fighter variants. Volume Four – 2000 Classic Publications Limited, Crowborough, East Sussex ISBN 1-903223-04-0 Pages 671–882 The concluding volume covers the final combat operations of April and May 1945, advanced and projected Me 262 variants and post-war evaluation of captured aircraft by the Allied nations. Total: approximately 882 pages. All four books are large-format hardcovers with their original illustrated dust jackets. Condition The books come from a private collection and have spent virtually their entire life on the bookshelf. They have only rarely been taken from the shelves or handled. The books themselves are very clean and exceptionally well preserved. The bindings and pages remain in very good condition. The dust jackets show only light signs of age and normal shelf wear. Volume One still has an older bookseller’s price sticker (£8.99) on the front of the dust jacket. I have deliberately left this sticker in place rather than attempt to remove it and risk damaging the jacket. Please study the photographs carefully, as they form an important part of the condition description. A particularly attractive opportunity to acquire the complete original four-volume Smith & Creek reference work together as one set. An impressive reference for collectors of aviation history, Luftwaffe history, military aviation, the Messerschmitt Me 262 and Second World War aircraft.
