We present this large oil on canvas depicting a still life with bottles, fruit, glass and everyday objects by Jacques Durand-Henriot (1922-1997) The composition features a table loaded with bottles, fruit, a pitcher, a wine glass and a candlestick, in front of a suspended drapery. Title: Still life with bottles, fruits and accessories Technique: Large-format oil on canvas Artist: Jacques Durand-Henriot (1922-1997) Work format: 73 × 100 cm Condition: Good condition, signs of wear, scuffing and marks visible on the paint layer Jacques Durand-Henriot (1922-1997) was a French painter, draftsman and printmaker. Born in Paris, he studied at the École des Beaux-Arts de Paris under the direction of Nicolas Untersteller before turning his career toward teaching. He later settled in Brittany where he became a professor at the Regional School of Fine Arts of Rennes in 1952, then director of the institution from 1971 until his retirement in 1988. In parallel with his teaching duties, he pursued a recognized artistic career and became notably a member of the Salon d’Automne from 1948. His work, saturated with poetry, is largely inspired by his travels and the regions he loved. He is particularly known for his coastal landscapes and seascapes of Brittany and Normandy, his views of Italy as well as his equestrian scenes capturing the atmosphere of the races at Deauville. During his life, his talent was crowned by several major official distinctions. He received the Grand prix national des arts in 1946, was named Chevalier des Palmes académiques in 1958 and won the Grand prix de Barbizon in 1985. Jacques Durand-Henriot passed away in Rennes in 1997, leaving behind a valued pictorial oeuvre and the memory of an influential teacher for generations of Breton artists.
