Alle Auktionen / Sonstige / Jan Antonides van der Linden Rembrandt Harmensz. van Rijn

A very good and striking impression, still printing with touches of burr in the darker passages. With a fine margin around the platemark and with the unworked lower margin beneath the image, intended for the name of the sitter. Rembrandt’s final etching was commissioned by the sitter’s son, Hendrick van der Linden, as the frontispiece for his father’s Magni Hippocratis coi Opera omnia, published in 1665. The portrait was ultimately not included in the publication, apparently because it did not meet with the approval of the commissioners. – A faint light brown stain in the upper left corner. Verso with a minute, pinhead-sized area of paper thinning at the centre of the upper margin. Otherwise in good condition. | 1606 Leiden - Amsterdam 1669 | 15.-18. Jahrhundert | Druckgrafik | Nummer: 26x1708 | Provenance: Bérnard André-Denis (1806–1873), Paris, with his collector’s stamp verso (Lugt 75); Carl Julius Kollmann (1820–1875), Dresden, with his handwritten collector’s mark verso (Lugt 1585); Georg Rath (1828–1904), Budapest, with his collector’s stamp verso (Lugt 1206); Paul Davidsohn (1839–1924?), Danzig, London, Vienna and Berlin, with his collector’s stamp and handwritten annotation in pencil verso (Lugt 654); P. & D. Colnaghi & Co. London, (with their stock number C. 19449 in pencil verso); Hendricus Egbertus ten Cate (1868–1955), Almelo, Netherlands, with his collector’s stamp verso (Lugt 533b).
