Alle Auktionen / Möbel, Design und Spiegel / Jardinière - Florentino - Iron - Decorative Striations
Due to its morphology, this piece is closer to a neoclassical Italian or Florentine Renaissance taste reinterpreted in the nineteenth century than to the authentic historical Florentine style. The striated cup form, the circular stem, and the absence of exuberant ornamentation recall the models of garden kraters and vessels inspired by Antiquity, very popular during 19th-century historicism. A planter or small ornamental garden cup made of wrought and cast iron during the 19th century, conceived following neorenaissance Italian-inspired models. The piece presents an elegant flaring body traversed by pronounced vertical striations that emphasize its height and slenderness, culminating in a gently undulating edge that adds dynamism to the silhouette. The bottom is articulated by a fluted zone that links to a short central pedestal and a wide circular base, providing stability and visual balance to the whole. The surface retains traces of its old polychromy or gilded finish, now transformed by the passage of time into an attractive patina where ochre tones, golds, and soft oxidations coexist, enriching its historical character. These signs of use and aging grant the piece an authenticity especially valued in garden decorative elements and landscape architecture of the nineteenth century. Its sober and harmonious design finds parallels in productions inspired by Florentine Renaissance models, reinterpreted during the historicist period for the ornamentation of terraces, galleries, conservatories, and gardens of bourgeois residences and country houses. The purity of its lines, together with the nobility of wrought iron, makes this planter an elegant example of exterior decorative arts, capable of integrating into both classical and eclectic environments. Beyond its function as a plant container, the piece possesses a marked sculptural presence, evoking the small ornamental urns that decorated Italian and French gardens of the nineteenth century. Its balanced proportion, the strength of its striated modeling, and the beauty of its historical patina make it an attractive testament to the neorenaissance taste that characterized much of European decoration of the era.
