It depicts, in his typical style, a suggestive view of the surroundings of Naples with figures in the foreground and Vesuvius in the background. Looking at this small masterpiece, one seems to hear the words of the artist himself: "This sun gives off a light that makes me despair. It makes me feel the utter powerlessness of my palette." In the original frame now lost, there was a label with the words "Ecole Corot" as per the last attached photo. This artwork, comes from an important French private collection.
