Type: Etching; Support: Heavy ragged-edged paper: State: Excellent impression in black and white, good overall condition with slight traces of foxing and browning, all as shown in the photo; Shipping: INSURED via Bartolini/DPD courier, report any damage at the time of collection; Origin: From a private collection; Engraving from the collection: L’Ornithologie de la France, taken from the essential part of Buffon’s encyclopedic work, originally published in France from 1770 with the official title “Histoire Naturelle des Oiseaux”. The Milan edition of Galeazzi (1774-1775) represents the first historical Italian translation and dissemination of Buffon’s French ornithological studies. Instead of importing the volumes, Italian printers preferred to recreate the illustrative apparatus by relying on local engravers such as Giovanni Ramis, who finely copied the French branches and adapted the captions.
