JOHN VARLEY, O.W.S. (BRITISH 1778-1842) DROVERS ON A ROAD, A RUINED CASTLE BEYOND Watercolour 24.5 x 43cm (9½ x 16¾in.) Provenance: Stanley W Fisher, Worcestershire Sale, Christie's, London, 9 June 1970, lot 85 Condition Report: The sheet is in good overall condition and the colours are strong and fresh. There is some slight crazing to the thicker areas of gum arabic in the darker areas, though this does not detract from the image. There is a small repair to the extreme upper left corner, small one towards the lower left corner and in the centre of the lower edge, approximately 2 cm. The watercolour is fitted into an acid free mount and could be hung without further attention. The watercolour was not taken out of the frame in the preparation of this report.
